We are very proud to announce that our short film, “Take Up Space,” is now available on the Celestial Citizen YouTube Channel. In addition to the film, we have also released a four-part companion podcast series on Celestial Citizen podcast.
Celestial Citizen poured their heart and soul into this project, alongside a remarkable team of talented individuals who each contributed their unique skills and talents. The courage and strength exhibited by the participants in the film left a profound impact on us. Through sharing their stories, we strive to bring about positive change in an industry that still has a long way to go to reach true equality and inclusivity.
Thank you to those that attended our screenings of this film and engaged with us in meaningful dialogue about what comes next. We remain committed to relentlessly pushing for gender equity in space.
Film Summary:
"Take Up Space" is a short film that spotlights the firsthand accounts of eight anonymous women and non-binary individuals from across the space industry and what their experiences have been with gender discrimination and sexual harassment.
This film reveals the current climate for gender minorities in a male-dominated space and just how much work still has to be done to make humanity’s future on- and off-Earth more inclusive.
*This film discusses sensitive topics related to sexual harassment, abuse, and sexual assault that may be triggering or traumatic for viewers.

“Take Up Space” - Special Podcast Series
In addition to the short film, our team also put together a special four-part companion podcast series for “Take Up Space” that delves further into many of the themes discussed in the film and offers additional perspectives on discrimination and sexual harassment in the space industry.
Part 1: "Not Technical Enough" — discusses the ways in which women are discouraged from pursuing careers in STEM and technical fields.
Part 2: "Dark Space" — shares experiences of women and non-binary individuals with gender discrimination, harassment, assault, and hostility in the workplace and academic settings.
Part 3: "Hope for Change" — highlights the importance of representation, diverse narratives, and breaking down barriers that prevent women from climbing the ladder in the industry.
Part 4: "Space for All" — discusses the aspirations of women and gender minorities in space and emphasizes the need for support and initiatives to provide resources for women in the field.

This week, we also released a special episode of Celestial Citizen podcast in which Helen Floersh, Celestial Citizen’s social media producer and community lead, interviewed our founder and director of the film, Britt Duffy Adkins, about the making of “Take Up Space,” the inspiration behind it, as well as the barriers that still exist for gender minorities in the space industry.
