Ground Control #4
A new donation fuels the search for extraterrestrial life, GPS technology gets more precise, and how talking to dolphins is like talking to…aliens?
Welcome to Ground Control. This is our fourth edition of a brand-new newsletter that was born out of our love for the intersection of space + podcasting. Because as much as we love to write and talk about space – we also love to listen to space…news. Because you can’t listen to space. Unless it’s a ripple of hot star gas.
Today, we have four episode recommendations.
Ground Control is exclusively for paid subscribers - so if you want to get past the paywall…well, you know what to do.
As a heads up, in the future we will have an opening or two for ads. If you’re interested, give us a holler at info@celestialcitizen.com.
Let’s get into it.

Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe
“Listener Questions 45: Gravity and Black holes”
If you’re the type of person who every once in a while constantly pauses to ponder the likelihood of all this just being a simulation – well, then we might just have the perfect podcast for you. This week in the astronomy category we have a delightful show from iHeart, known as Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe, in which a physics professor and cartoonist get into the science of space, quantum mechanics, artificial intelligence and more. In a recent “Listener Questions” episode, Daniel and Jorge take their stab at everyone’s favorite mind-melting concept – black holes. And guess what? It was fun. The hosts don’t shroud explanations in gatekeep-y jargon. Instead, they organically approach complex topics in a way that unlocks new ideas and understanding. Don’t get it twisted – even if you’re quite familiar with black holes (who are you?), this show can still offer new perspectives. For an enjoyable romp through Schrödinger's cat and more, check out this episode.
